Referred to as "Heaven's Pearls" in Chinese, the origin of Dzi beads is somehow covered in myth, but most likely they were made by ancient people from earth stones (mostly agate) by carving specific markings on the stone.

Colors will mainly range from browns to blacks with the pattern usually being in ivory white. A specific number of circles are the central design for the Dzi as the beads are mostly classified by the number of eyes/circles they contain. The image of the eye has always been a very powerful symbol in all ancient cultures, the eye being vigilant, all-seeing and protective.

The number of eyes and the various patterns found on the surface of the Dzi beads all has a special meaning and purpose. The 9-eyed Dzi beads are much sought after as they are well-known as a window to wisdom, good health, success, power, compassion, glory, and at the same time acts as a protector and remover of obstacles.
